The municipality of Amsterdam has awarded the tender for the last high-rise plot at Overhoeks to the team consisting of Xior, DubbeLL, Mecanoo Architecten, Merosch, Dakdokters, Pim Evers, WeDriveSolar, Van Rossum en Nelissen Ingenieurs, with their entry “BrinkToren” (Brink Tower).

The BrinkToren is approximately 90 meters high and after completion will accommodate a large number of new residents in Overhoeks. This latest addition to the high-rise strip in Overhoeks will be a green, sustainable and bustling vertical neighborhood, with a great diversity of homes that will accommodate a varied group of people who will live, work, study, do business and relax there in a pleasant way. And all this in a green and healthy environment.

Living and Family Entertainment

The plan consists of approximately 400 homes, including over 100 social rental homes for Ymere, 30 care homes, a neighborhood room and over 250 medium-priced rental homes, which will be operated by Xior. The plan contributes to a solution for the acute shortage of quality and affordable housing for young professionals, starters, young couples, (international) students and researchers in Amsterdam.

The BrinkToren will have an attractive plinth, with, in addition to the entrances to all homes, various facilities (catering, local shops, flexible workplaces and a Van der Pekbowling) that will be partly operated by Pim Evers, initiator of Hannekes Boom, Aloha, Vergulden Eenhoorn, etc. Cannibale Royale and several other companies in Amsterdam.

Urban Space Agency, together with MulderBlauw, Cepezed and Meurkens & Meurkens, has drawn up a creative plan for the selection for Kavel 1 in the Amstel Business Park South.

Developed: a home base for creatives, artists and lovers of adventurous city culture. A vibrant, tough, sustainable and future-oriented design with a broad, innovative and experimental program. This makes it a unique new destination location in Amsterdam. In this raw environment you work, have dinner and feel like an artist.

While this area doesn’t need another hotel, the team participated in this roster and devised an insane plan to turn this fringe into a permanent fringe.

The selection includes space for: hotel, incubator, creative companies, leisure and catering, a selection based on spatial quality, programme, hotel concept and sustainability.

The plan has just not been chosen as the best plan; apparently there is an even better plan, so this will be a really nice place for the city!

The team wishes the selected team the best of luck.

The Municipality of Amsterdam is working on plans to transform Buikslotermeerplein into the beating city center of Amsterdam North. Urban Space Agency, together with Stefan Bödecker (BFAS+) and Okrah Donkor (Triple Threat), form the Placemaking team that focuses on the ideas and wishes that live within the users of Buikslotermeerplein.

Playground CS™ of Urban Space Agency: the coolest place in the heart of Amsterdam for the summer of 2015!

From July 15, 2015 until the end of August 2015, directly in front of Central Station, Amsterdam there was a beautiful pop up playground: Playground CS™. For children, moms and dads, and grandma’s and grandpa’s oma’s! Open for playing and relaxing 7 days a week!

Sports and games, sand, buckets & spades, beach chairs, hammocks and parasols gave the place the look and feel of the beach. Playground CS™ quickly became an oasis children and families in the middle of the hectic city. Playground CS™ was the kick off for a project to create more places to play in the city.

Initiator is Henny Heijmans Amsterdamverbindt, City of Amsterdam (Sport, Ruimte en duurzaamheid, Stad in Balans), and Stefan Bödecker of BF-AS.
Together with Tosti Creative Urban Space Agency turns Playground CS™ into the place to be for the summer of 2015.

Station Amsterdam Centraal heeft over een paar jaar twee volwaardige entrees: de bestaande monumentale stationshal aan de centrumzijde en de moderne IJ-hal aan de kant van het water. Deze hal wordt gebouwd onder het busplatform over de volle breedte van het station. Het bouwwerk wordt 250 meter lang, 45 meter breed en circa 4 meter hoog. Het dak van de hal is de onderkant van het nieuwe busstation. Onder de IJ-hal vindt men de metro’s en de nieuwe Michiel de Ruijter autotunnel. Vanuit de IJ-hal stappen reizigers straks makkelijk over tussen trein, metro, bus, pont of taxi.

Winkels en verblijfshoreca
Het eerste deel van de IJ-hal aan de westzijde van het station wordt net als de west-passage begin 2015 in gebruik genomen. Alle reizigerstunnels en de beide nieuwe passages komen op termijn uit in de nieuwe hal. Daar treft men ook de (rol)trappen naar het busplatform en de metro. Het ontwerp van de IJ-hal is gemaakt door Wiel Arets Architects. De hal wordt voorzien van servicefaciliteiten, zoals Tickets & Servicebalies en verblijfshoreca met uitzicht op het IJ. Het aanbod zal variëren van fastfood tot een wat hoger segment met bediening voor de reiziger met wat meer tijd. Het station wordt hiermee niet alleen een vertrek- en aankomstpunt, maar ook een verblijfplaats.

Urban Space Agency werkt aan de activatie, programmering en verhuur van deze mooie ruimte langs het IJ. De IJ-hal Amsterdam Centraal is niet alleen maar een plek waar je langs komt onderweg; het is een plek waar je even blijft en achteraf merkt dat het er fijn was, waardoor je er wat langer bent gebleven.

Een greep uit wat hier binnenkort actief wordt: iAmsterdam, Placemaking Plus, Tubino, Europe Cycle Company, Ring Ring.

Unfortunately the project Arrival Place™ near Station Lelylaan did not continue; what had happenend?
Arrival Place has had several has had some setbacks during construction and therefore development took a little longer. The Municipality has been asked to cooperate in the form of a postponement of the collection of the land rent and the division of the contract into three parts: the train, the Finch Building and the South Building. Unfortunately, the Municipality has not cooperated with this. Urban Space Agency B.V. has unfortunately been forced to file for bankruptcy; Urban Space Agency will continue to exist as a brand.
During the bankruptcy, the Nieuw-West district spoke with the potential operators and at the end of July it decided not to do business with the potential operators; the district council wants the train removed from the site in front of Lelylaan Station. The district has also decided not to have the Finch building placed on the site… in short: the end of Arrival Place™…

Our opinion remains that with the necessary activation this site can become a beautiful place; this requires more than bricks and empty public space.

Come one! Come all. On Thursday the 29^th of October our larger than life Train Set, a MAT 64 “Monkeyhead” from Netherlands Railway (NS) is coming to Arrival Place™ by road. The loading at the yard in Haarlem, and transport to and placement next to Station Lelylaan shall take most of the day. Come and enjoy this first exciting event at Arrival Place™.

Arrival Place™ foundations are being laid, services have been installed and we’re working hard towards the opening before the end of 2015. Construction at Arrival Place™ will accelerate after placing the train at the heart of our little village @ Station Lelylaan.

At station location Station Lelylaan in Amsterdam Nieuw West, Urban Space Agency is developing and building a place with a 1001 things to do, a true feast for the senses.  From vacant lot to a place where you are inspired through sent, colors, flavors and sounds: Arrival Place™.

Together with our neighbors, citizens at large, the students and staff of Calvijn College, Students and Staff of Team Academy, Netherlands Railway (NS), City of Amsterdam, PS City, Stichting Raguel, Hannekes Boom…sinds 1662, Placemaking Plus, DWI, Heijmans, Tubino, Flowers by Joan Brenda, and a growing cast of thousands our dreams are being realized. Our small village in the big city is changing and growing every day

For a vacant lot on Amsterdam’s Oosterdoks Eiland Urban Space Agency developed a concept for a village of Cultures: ODE place™ , in cooperation with old and new neighbors of the OosterDoksEiland (ODE), MAB development, PMB, Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, Conservatorium Amsterdam, Double Tree by Hilton, &Samhoud Places, Hannekes Boom…sinds 1662, Tubino, Flowers by Joan Brenda, De Prael and…you?

ODE place™ is a tiny village with all those things still missing on Oosterdokseiland. Together with our neighbors, local entrepreneurs and visitors we shall turn this vacant lot into a warm place! En route between home and work, between art and culture, “stay in the city just a little longer!”
